There is no such thing as coincidences?

Yesterday I got dragged into a historical meeting in a private dining room at The Hyatt, and little did I know that the room we dined in had the same name as my apartment name. Hmmm.

Tonight I attended a defense event and was accompanied by an Indonesian Air Force F16 pilot Commander. To my disbelief, his Air Force call sign name is 'unicorn'.

What are the odds?
Really.

01012013

Turned out that my NYE 2013 was far from peace and quiet.
Really, nobody knows what the future holds.
And nothing beats ending and starting the year with your childhood besties.
Super classic.

Sunrise from Cipularang toll road with the mountainous view of Bandung.
And marriage proposals on NYE? Epic.

Hope yours was as good as mine. Happy first day of the year 2013. I hope it will only get better...

Last (mon)day of the Year 2012

Finally. Here comes the end of what I would call an adventurous year, for some of us.
The city has been so quiet the past couple of days.
Especially today.

I woke up this morning and do more cleaning up. Had a good 50mins swim and stare back at my room. It feels like there is no end to this cleaning up business!

But I decided to change my set of toys for 2013. That is my late father's miniature car toys collection. Am going all classic this time, except for the Citation XLS. I got the Lincoln Presidential Series Collection, Kennedy's. Chevy Camaro, Jag, Volvo and good old Benz.
Some inspiration for next year's work load, perhaps. Got to be driven in one of these... Maybe. Never say never, hey. What's wrong with fantasy?

It's oh so quiet. So serene.
Such a contrast to the usual commotion, the chaos has gone for a little while now.
Times like these happens twice a year in Jakarta: during The Holy Month of Ramadhan/Lebaran, and end of year. The emptiness is addictive yet haunting. A city that is usually blasted with impatient drivers' honking, motorbikes racing, suddenly turned into a friendly place to live in. Nice. The city is breathing, its people are too. I see less pollution in the sky, and the breeze has fulfilled the international weather standard.

I have noticed, Jakarta is getting less and less crowded annually in the holiday seasons. That is either a good sign that the economic growth is escalating, so people can afford to travel and get the hell out of town, maybe because they are so sick of it from being stuck here for the rest of the year. Or a bad sign is that, when can Jakarta become the end of year destination like Vegas or Hong Kong, San Fransisco or Sydney?
The newly appointed Governor Jokowi is trying to make a change by imposing a car free hours on the stretch of Sudirman tonight for the street carnivale. There will be multiple stages set up from Monas (National Monument) all the way to Semanggi Interchange. We are going Brazillian are we? I hope they will keep the street clean after wards.

Unfortunately I will not be able to observe how it goes since I am spending the Eve with family in Bogor. Looks like another quiet, chill breeze, calm and peaceful New Years.

Some lost lonely soul friends of mine doesn't even give a shit about New Years. I said, we can always go with the Chinese. 10th February, The Year of the Black Water Snake. We can party then. Which means, there is still time... And tonight is just another Monday night that you can spend... Sleeping. Old age? Or frustration, desperation, loneliness and the terror of being single? Ha!

Does it matter? Where you are or who you are with on New Year's Eve?
New Year's Eve, that itself, does it really matter?

Sometimes it matters, sometimes it doesn't. It depends on your current state of being.
Whether you love it or hate it, it is just another way of saying that the clock is ticking and time is passing by. So if you really don't give a damn about tonight, it is okay, because life goes on, and moments will pass, and The Masehi calendar will catch up with nature's and His calendar -
and without you realizing it, there will be a time/s in the future that becomes your own New Year's Eve. Who said it has to be the first of January?

No matter what, it just feels nice to finish one and change a calendar. Good business too.
And it is always the holidays and long weekend red dates that we first check on the new calendar, anyways.
